Overview

Game mechanics are features that are included within the gameplay of A Universal Time. They vary and are used for different reasons. This page mentions all the current and proper mechanics within the game.

Game Mechanics

Blocking Blocking is a feature that is set so that the player can reduce the amount of damage you take as well as blocking moves that usually stuns the player. However, if an enemy lands a 'heavy' move or a move that causes extreme knockback and ragdoll, they will have their guard broken and will be stunned for around 2 seconds, which can be punished. All X or Grab moves can bypass this feature.
Perfect Blocking Perfect Blocking, often called parrying, is a feature more regular for PVP, yet it can be used as well in PVE. It negates damage and leave enemies open for attacks. To land a successful Perfect Block, the player must block slightly prior to an enemy's attack. Not all attacks can be Perfect Blocked, but a wide majority can, such as heavy moves. If successful, the player will flash with a yellow outline and make a kanji appear, while also stunning the attacker for a long duration.
Attacking Attacking is a feature that is used by all players and can either be used as Rush Attack or general moves. When attacking, damage is dealt and the player could stun the enemy while attacking, and also sometimes block break or bypass/cancel moves. Depending on what moves aree used, they can also provide invincibility frames or Hyperarmor.
Target Lock Target Lock is a feature that can be used on both PVP and PVE related enemies, and it can be activated or deactivated by hovering your cursor over the desired target and pressing L. Activating Target Lock automatically locks your camera to a target, and constantly follows the target without you needing to move your camera manually.
Dashing Dashing, also known as Quickstepping, is a mechanic that gives that player the ability to avoid attacks and travel distances in the game, and the default keybind is C. When Dashing, the player will be given temporary invincibility frames and avoid certain moves. However, this has a cooldown and the player does not travel far when using it. However, some abilities have custom dashes, examples being Cid Kagenou (Spec)'s Shadowstep, or Kars' Superhuman Agility.
Invincibility Frames and Hyperarmor Invincibility Frames (or I-Frames) and Hyperarmor are a mechanic that allows players to become immune to ragdoll and stun during a duration of time, and usually is enable when/while a move is being activated. I-Frames allow plays to gain full invincibility against all moves and damage, and are indicated when the player flashes white while a move is being activated. Hyperarmor allows player to not be stunned or ragdolled when attacked, and only reduces damage taken during that time, indicated with the player having an orange outline during the move.
Heat Heat is the mechanic that works as an energy bar, and is required for players to have in order to use certain moves. Heat is essentially stamina or energy that is used for moves, and the player can gain heat either by dealing damage with certain moves and LMB/M1s, or by being attacked. Heat also passively drains after a certain amount of time without gaining heat.

Crafting Most abilities within the game can be crafted into certain abilities by obtaining shards from Loot Crates and all require different items and Shards in order to craft certain abilities. The list of them are on the Ability Crafting page.
Quests In the game, questlines are the most interactive part of AUT, and most abilities within the game require a questline in order to obtain the ability, such as the Hito Model: Nika Questline from EpicFlow203’s Alter Ego. Along with this, some quests also have prerequisites in order to start the quest, such as The Eminence in Shadow Questline from EpicNitronX203.
Evolution Some abilities, mostly Stands, require them to evolve the stand in order to obtain the full potential of their ability, and are usually evolved through items and questlines. They are relatively easy (with the exception of some quests, such as the Hito Model: Nika Questline).
Items Items are important components that are used to either obtain a Stand, a spec, or evolve a Stand or a spec. Items can be obtained in a variety of ways. They can spawn depending on their rarity and are dropped from Loot Crates, bosses and quests. Items also have different purities, meaning they sell for more the higher purity they are, however items dropped by bosses or spawning naturally on the floor are always 100% pure. The player can see the purity of an item by either seeing the item's description when opening a Loot Crate or by hovering their cursor over the item in their inventory.
Bosses Bosses are powerful non-playable characters (NPCs) that players can challenge to earn reward drops such as Items, Skins, Universal currency (e.g. UCoins, UShards), and progression material for quests or ability attainment. Bosses are essential to both PvE gameplay and specific questlines, which offer unique challenges and drops that improve player progression. Some bosses can also allow players to obtain their ability, such as Minos Prime. This category provides all of the Bosses that are currently in the game.

PVP Gamemodes The PVP Gamemode is a gamemode that allows player to queue matches and battle other players. There are 2 options for PVP in the game, which are 1v1s and 2v2s. Within this gamemode, the player can choose to queue Casual or Ranked, with casual being normal battles without rewards, and Ranked allowing players to receive rewards by winning and increasing their ranks on the leaderboards. The winners for every season will receive rewards at the end. The current rewards being placed in the top 10 leaderboard are uFragments, and the top 1 player of the season has the ability to choose any Limited Skin to return to the Limited shop.
Boundless Tower The Boundless Tower is a gamemode that allows the player to gain EXP easily and rewards such as uCoin or uShards. It functions as an infinite tower where each floor has 10 waves and each floor gets progressively harder. This is considered the most viable option to obtain uCoins.

Item Storage Item storage is a system that allows players to store items in their inventory and equip them at any time. The max for the average player is 20, and to increase this, the player will have to buy the Item Storage Slot gamepass for 50 Robux per cap extension.
Playtime Rewards Playtime rewards are a system that was added to give players free rewards depending on how long they have played the game per day. There are daily and weekly rewards, with every week resetting the weekly rewards.

Ability Leveling Ability Leveling is a feature that allows the player to increase their ability's level and also stats. Every time the player levels up, the EXP required for the next level increases, and each level gives you 1 Stat point, which the player can either put in 4 different catagories; Attack, Health, Defense, and Special. To learn more, visit the Ability Leveling page.
Ascensions Ascensions are a system that allows players to essentially 'Rebirth' their abilities and gain rewards from doing so. This could mean extra EXP gain, Kill effects, and an increase in Trait Rarity. To learn more, visit the Ascensions page.

Mastery Mastery is a system added in Update 3.8, and allows players to upgrade their ability to gain new powers as an alternate to leveling, however, not all abilities have this system. To learn more, visit the Mastery page.

Moves When using abilities, players are able to use several different moves depending on their ability, and also unlock several different moves through either side quests or leveling up the ability. Some moves could heal the user or heal people, and other moves are used for attacking.
Keybinds Keybinds are a feature that allows the player to use certain moves by binding a certain key to activiate them. The player can change these keybinds by accessing their Ability page and pressing 'Moves'. By selecting to unbind and bind the move, the player can change their keybinds and also include (key)+ by holding down the key you want to bind for 2 seconds, which will set the key to (key)+, such as changing the key C to C+.
Keyboard Shortcuts In AUT, the game provides the player 2 keyboard shortcuts that allow the player to access certain features. These are the Freecam and the UI accessibility options. Pressing Ctrl + P allows the player to access Freecam, which allows the player to move their perspective freely from their avatar. To exit Freecam, simply press the combination again. If the player presses Ctrl + Shift + C, they are able to disable the UI, making the player unable to see their health, moveset, or settings. The player can enable the UI simply by pressing the combination once again.

Subpowers Subpowers are a feature that allows players to obtain secondary powers that are separate for every ability and player. To obtain these Subpowers, prerequisites must be made in order to obtain these powers. They can also be accessed within the player menu to see your current Subpowers you can equip for the equipped ability. To learn more, visit the Subpowers page.
Adventure Board The Adventure Board is a feature that allows players to gather EXP and money easily within the game while also experiencing unique quests and features. There are many different adventures within the game, and they all offer different amounts of rewards depending on their difficulty. This can be accessed by talking to the Valcure (NPC) at West Park. To learn more, visit the Adventure Board page.
Bounty System The Bounty System is a feature that allows players to hunt other players for rewards depending on how many people the player has killed. Bounty will be gained for every player killed, and uCoins will be added every time. This has no limit, and if the player is killed by another player, the killer will receive the reward for the bounty. To know more, visit the Bounty System page.
